Meet Dr. VanSurksum
Dr. Roderick D. VanSurksum
Dr. VanSurksum received his undergraduate and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees from the University of Iowa. He then completed a General Practice Residency at Ehrling Berquist Hospital at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, after which he served 5 additional years in the U.S. Air Force as a General Dentist, with duty assignments at Misawa AFB, Japan, and Incirlik AFB, Turkey. He also took part in humanitarian missions to Thailand, Africa, and northern Iraq during the first Gulf War.
Dr. VanSurksum left the military in 1996 to pursue Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical College of Milwaukee, completing his residency in June 2000. He and his family then moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he lives with his wife Amy and their three children, Grace, Sophie, and Garrit.
Dr. VanSurksum is a past President of the Minnesota Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is active in the ADA, MDA, AAOMS, and is Board-certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. VanSurksum has a special interest in dental implants. He offers patients the option of immediate implants following extraction of anterior teeth, with placement of a temporary crown the following day.
He also has extensive experience in orthognathic surgery, most recently travelling with Health Volunteers Overseas to Vietnam, where he instructed and operated with Vietnamese Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He also enjoys “day-to-day” office oral surgery and interacting with patients.
